Insider info: The film isn’t about how to get more friends but centers on the brilliant Harvard students whose online socializing changed the world. The film revolves around Mark Zuckerberg (Eisenberg), who started Facebook from his dorm room and then became a billionaire. Then there are his friends, including Eduardo Saverin (Garfield), who got shoved to the side of his own bright idea. Meanwhile, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (Armie Hammer and Josh Pence) claim all of this was their idea in the first place. Can you say lawsuits? All of this became part of the 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, which was optioned for a film and … the rest is history.

In advance of ‘The Social Network‘ making its way to the big screen and its version of depicting the now almost-urban-legend intrigue of Facebook‘s origins, another smaller feature under the unassuming title ‘Catfish‘ documents a true-life story about how the underbelly of this ecosystem can actually distort reality – and how easy it is to drop down into the social media rabbit hole of fabricated identities.
