foursquare

11th March 2010 (1 Comments)

If any of y’all follow IG on Twitter of FB then you’ll notice we’ve all been using something pretty fun called FourSquare. So everywhere I go I check in there (restaurants/clubs/shops etc) and I get points for doing so. I can unlock all kinds of different badges and connect & compete with friends who also use it. BUT that’s just a side note really, what’s the best part you’re asking yourself? Ok so if you’re my friend and we both use Foursquare you can leave notes at each location. So for example if you’re my friend and you go to Hudson’s the burger joint and check-in there you’ll get a note that says “Since you’re here Anthea says Hudson’s makes the best burgers in the city”. Yes it’s fun like that. Wish there was a rewards system for visiting different spots. But that’ll happen eventually, for now join it (you’ll be addicted). The picture attached is of an iPhone, but you can use this on any smartphone (obviously it need GPS to work).

Happy Phuza Thursday friends

p.s. it’s got a bad logo but don’t be distracted by that

Grolsch owns this city

03rd March 2010 (0 Comments)

You must be living under a rock if you haven’t noticed that Grolsch beer is taking over this city. Slow infiltration of Grolsch drafts and swingtops into bars, adverts at the movies, sponsoring the Design Indaba – the list goes for days.

One of our grasses noticed the same thing, he tells us:

“I just loved what Grolsch did at the Design Indaba, it showed:

- innovation

- differentiation

- and spunked a brand up that was perceived as WAY to expensive as first:

I think the marketing intrinsics of Grolsch, a brand that says “Craftmenship is Mastery , was displayed in this artwork.

what I ahve realised, consumers get bored by mediocrity, beer is not a conessiuer product, where taste always plays a big role. I believe innovation is key to a beer market.

windhoek did well with unique advertising

Heineken was the aspirational brand of choice amongst BEE entrepenuers.

Castle Lite is the new innovative brand on the block with quirky emotional appeal.

BUT grolsch offers a unique artistic and stylish appeal, far greater and premium. that any of the competiiton..

FOR NOW…”

Nike Sportswear x Kronk

17th February 2010 (2 Comments)

Kronk has got to be one of South Africa’s best known graphic designers having done some of the raddest work we have seen come out of our super talented country. This however is not a random Kronk punt but rather a shout out to some really incredible new gear that he has designed for Nike Sportswear.

As Hypbeast.com reports: This year Nike worked with established and emerging artists from six countries to create alternative National Team Kits that flip the script on the classic football kit. “We wanted to include the kinds of apparel and accessories that would be in a footballers bag,” “They would be the same colors of on-field uniforms, but with the artists’ twists.”. In order to accomplish this, the Nike team asked artists contribute a badge, mascot, print and an alphabet in their handwriting style. Each collaboration includes N98 Track Jacket, AW 77 hoodie, kit tee, polo shirt and short for both men and women; then tee for men and tank for women.

SHOUT OUT KRONK, this is some of the dopest 2010 gear we’ve seen.

Maximum Respect.

on the run

16th February 2010 (1 Comments)

morning all

So someone came up to my desk earlier and asked if I had one of those electric cigarette things. I was pretty confused about what they meant, and then I realised that it was the ultimate coolness of my On the Run markers that they had noticed. So yes these are 3 different colour markers that can be stored in your cigarette box so that no nasty natured club bouncer can take your pen away from you. It’s thrillingly smart don’t you think? If you want some for yourself you’ll have to go and see if the nice boys at Shelflife Store (119 Loop Street) still have them. If they don’t just admire the pictures and ask me to show you when you see me next :)

McQueen is Dead. Long Live McQueen.

12th February 2010 (2 Comments)

Morning all.

The IG office is a sombre mood this morning. We are all shocked by the sudden death of legendary designer Alexander McQueen. We all know how great he was so instead of rattling on we’ve included a video from probably his most famous show ever. His S/S 99 show was the most epic in memory, the finale was model meets machine. Don’t want to tell you too much more so check it out for yourself.

Much love McQueen, you will be missed.
