I was reading through a couple of my favourite blogs this am, and came across this… MENTAL:
Its about How a 13-year old gained 16,000 fans on Facebook in 96 hours to help his grandfather, a decorated police officer of 19 years, was dying of stage 4 lung cancer.
Because of a loophole, his employer, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, had denied him benefits and cut his pension from $3000/month to $700/month. Officer Ludwig was forced to sell his home, declare bankruptcy, and live in the basement of one of his son’s homes.
Officer Ludwig passed away on August 10. The page now has 22,689 fans.
It looks like the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit official page was taken down. The community started creating Metro pages to comment on and leave images of the now deceased and his story.
Something that would have been a private or localized story, becomes a global conversation… This just shows you the power of Social Media… Some have been calling it the “BP Moment” for US Metropol Organization …

Hey Guys,
So I recently came back on a trip in Europe and I came across this… UBuntu Cola. Ubuntu Cola is a soft drink certified by The Fairtrade Foundation. The what??? The Fairtrade Foundation is a charity based in the United Kingdom that works to empower disadvantaged producers in developing countries by tackling injustice in conventional trade.
The Cola is made with Fairtrade sugar from Malawi and Zambia, Ubuntu Cola is the first UK cola to be Fairtrade certified. It is available for sale in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Belgium, France, Italy,Switzerland, and online.

Research commissioned by The Ubuntu Trading Company showed that consumers have been waiting for a brand like Ubuntu…
We think its a pretty cool initiative. What are your thoughts? Local farmers are always getting screwed by big overseas retail stores, its nice to see someone doing something about it…

I don’t know bout you but sometimes having to breakup with someone sucks! We all know the clichés like “It’s not you it’s me…” and ” I’m not sure we are on the same page anymore..” More and more people are meeting via social media & breaking up in the same way…
I then came across a book titled, The Breakup 2.0, author Ilana Gershon explores how college students are using technologically mediated ways to break up with their partners. These new mediums, particularly, Facebook, texting and instant messaging has changed the way romantic relationships work and end. Whereas earlier, relationships were marked by tangible symbols of connection such as pins and rings, they have now been replaced by relationship statuses on Facebook profiles. The book is based on Ilana’s interviews of seventy-two people who shared stories of being dumped via these new media….
How many times has your bf or gf asked you to change your relationship status etc…
An interesting read , check it out
- till next time…

Sup guys, so we came across this on one of our favourite feeds, and we thought it was definately worth a post… very interesting read…
Ypulse recently undertook a survey of 1,000 teens and college students to understand how their social networking habits have changed over time. The results revealed some interesting stats suggesting that some young people are indeed affected by “Facebook Fatigue“-a phenomenon of users spending less and less time on it.
The survey found that even though Facebook was still the most popular social network, more than 25 percent of the students reported spending less or no time at all anymore on the site. So, what was the reason for this Facebook Fatigue? Ypulse gives some insights from its survey:
As for what was driving the change among the fatigued, we saw an interesting split between high school males and females. While 50 percent of girls claimed to be “tired of trying to keep up with all the activity” required of leading a demanding digital social life, guys appeared to be getting pulled and pushed in a different direction with 47 percent saying “most of my friends are using other sites now” (possibly gaming or a community more interest-driven?) and 44 percent blaming Mom and Dad for crashing the party (more than half of those surveyed had parents on Facebook).
Ypulse also asked its survey participants what Facebook could do to improve its user experience:
When it came to what the social network could do to improve the user experience, the points of contention were more universal: fewer ads and more privacy controls. Ad annoyance was also echoed in the stat that over half of Facebook users had never clicked through an ad before, and nearly half (48 percent) said they would gladly switch over to an ad-free network. ”
What do you think? Do you battle to keep up or feel overwhelmed… for some we know its a boredome buster, but hit us with some comments below…

As you know, IG has embraced QR codes for the last couple months, and tagged a bunch o spots all over the country… But now in New York, Calvin Klein ad above a Houston Street intersection in New York City is marked by giant red-and-white QR code. Unknown content beckons smartphone owners to scan the code to see an “uncensored” video advertisement. Although QR use is still rather low… ITS GONNA GROW!
