Finally! QR codes that serve a real purpose.

Based on the consumer insight that couples book their getaways together, sitting next to each in front of the computer, Scandinavian Airlines used two different QR codes, to be scanned by both people, forming a video that only makes sense when the two phones are placed next to each other. By playing this video, users were given a unique code to be input on the Scandinavian Airlines website, which gave them a two-for-one deal on using air miles. Most importantly, during the campaign week – every available ticket was sold out and at the same time, busy couples took the time to plan some quality time together. Everyone wins!

If you ever played The Incredible Machine (TIM) back in the day, you might recognise the gameplay in this new website from Honda. Linked to the new Civic, it encourages users to figure out logic puzzles using household objects, and teaches users about the new Civic’s product specs at the same time. Take a look at it here: http://experimentgame.com/

This is also a great example of advertising that offers something to consumers, instead of just demanding their time and giving them nothing in return. It’s an issue of respect. If a brand respects you enough to give you something that you enjoy, in exchange for paying attention to their branded message, it’s a lot easier to stomach than the old school method of repeating an ad endlessly and hoping someone would remember it. Wouldn’t it be nice if more ads actually gave you something, instead of just expecting you to buy their products? This is something that Wieden + Kennedy are so good at doing, creating advertising that is more than just advertising. W+K are great at creating sticky ideas that just tap into their time and place so well. With the Honda Experiment game – using html5, they are doing something fun and interesting, but they’ve always been good at doing that.

Take a look at this ad for Levi’s that W+K di from around the year 2000. If you’re of the slightly older generation, you may even recognise it:

A great example of an ad that is enjoyable, fun and doesn’t ask the viewer for anything. Remember the Cadbury’s Gorilla? This was a long time before that. You must also remember that this was pre YouTube, which means these ads only ever appeared on TV. How’s that for viral-style ideas before things could even ‘go’ viral?

Unless people were taping these ads and sharing them with each other…

And here’s the full length music video, just because it kicks ass:

So it doesn’t even seem worth mentioning anything today unless it’s the iPad2 or Charlie Sheen but if you can try and put that in a separate compartment of your brain for a minute I think you’ll quite enjoy this…

It’s a little something called “The Internet Wishlist” which is basically is what it says. “It’s a project from Community Developer and Creative Strategist, Amrit Richmond, that acts as a huge online suggestion box. Just add your dream app or website idea to the pool and cross your fingers that you inspire someone to action. It’s also a rich inspiration resource for entrepreneurs and start-ups”.

Pretty pretty great if you ask me, and mostly because it can amuse me for hours just reading all the mad suggestions. Check it out, have a laugh, be inspired, add your own check it here

Hello team

Yes you may have been wondering why we took a break from blogging last week? Well mainly because instead of just talking about collaboration we actually went out and did some (intense I know). Anyway back back forth and forth as they say.

Dopest thing I’ve seen today has come from iconic tech magazine WIRED. In a bid to expose and demonstrate the demise of personal privacy they sent personalized magazine covers to readers. WHAT THE WHAT? I know right?

So here’s a word from the Wired team as to what was behind this weird project, “We wanted to see how much personal data we could easily find about them from publicly available sources — as a means of emphasizing some of the points on “what the end of privacy means for you.” We sent the personalized copies of Wired to some randomly selected subscribers rather than all of them.”

“We used sources such as the edited electoral register, Companies House, the Land Registry and the social networks. We cross-matched data from one source against others — and so found some fascinating truths about, for instance, what readers are buying and selling on eBay (does the taxman know?), what revealing videos their children are posting online (you would be shocked), and what their exes have lately been saying about them. The level of detail we found — from children’s school reports to property profits — may worry some recipients, but that was the point. Many of us are unaware how data we post only for social reasons can later be used for other purposes — or triangulated with other data to build up detailed pictures of us.”

via WIRED

Holleration Family!

Those of you that are familiar with the fingers typing this post will know that I am also a major lover not only of sneakers but also of the WeSC (WeAretheSuperlativeConspiracy) brand. Anyway that’s more of an incidental fact but it gives an explaination as to how I came across this pretty amazing piece of technology. Everyday we brainstorm about how to implement various social media campaigns but then you see a product like this and you realise that sometimes the campaign lies somewhere inbetween the development of your product, rather than post development.

So WeSC is using this crazy crazy idea, using a system usually used to track stock they can now create a whole community for you through your sneakers. Yes. I said it. Sneakers. The old saying “if you walked a mile in my shoes…” well now you pretty much can using a combination of technologies and social media. I won’t say much more cause the video kind of breaks it down blow by blow. The potential for something like this is infinate. Check out the video for more!

Happy February (almost)

Phew. Okaaaaay so where to start.

Well Will.I.Am has been named Intel’s Director of Creative Innovation. Um, what qualifies him for this job? Nothing, but that’s the beauty of it. At the end of the day it’s the opinion of the people who are going to USE the product that count, the technology can be handled by the Big Bang Theory nerds hanging around on the other side of the focus group glass.

Will will contribute to the company by way of music and input in developing smart phones, tablets and laptops. The head suit at Intel tells us…“It’s imperative that Intel and our innovations are kept in front of the global youth culture that embraces new devices and new forms of communication and entertainment.”

So I like that Intel has taken this step, it’s not the guy I would have chosen but I suppose for Jon Doe Dirty Dancing is his favourite movie and anyone willing to remake that song is a hero in his eyes.

Here is a fancy photo of Will/William/Will.I.Am? looking only half as excited as he should for the money he’s about to be paid.

Ooooweeee Wednesday!

So y’all we’ve reached the mid week bump as they say and I’ma share something with you that has made my day infinetly better. Not only has this made me smile but it has opened my mind as to what we can expect to see (and maybe not see) in the future of mobility in the next while. BOOOOYAH.

Even working in marketing and seeing cool stuff all the time these sorts of initiatives still blow my hair back in all the right kind of ways. It’s a brand investing and growing in a sphere beyond what they do, as well as investing in the online and social media spectrum. High five and thumbs up to BMW. It also obviously presents a gap for BMW to deliver on the innovations they discuss, double high 5.

The idea behind it…“BMW has created a new franchise – BMW Documentaries – with the goal of ‘crafting original, thought-provoking and entertaining content’. The first film release, titled ‘Wherever You Want To Go”, aims to take the audience on a vision of the future. The story is told from the perspective of influential scientists, academics and entrepreneurs, and is delivered via a four-part documentary that ‘paints a unique picture of technology, culture, cities, our past, present and how it all relates to the future of mobility’. The film is promising no definitive answers – simply smart questions from smart people to generate discussion, creativity and imagination. Visitors to the Activate the Future website are encouraged to comment on various points throughout the documentary.”

Can’t help but love a brand who’s willing to invest in conversation. Nice one kids.
